E-3 Sentry stops at KDFW

Late last night, a USAF E-3 Sentry, callsign SHUCK82, diverted into the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport much to the surprise of many. Looking into it, it appears it was headed back home from a European deployment to Tinker Air Force Base, which was covered by severe weather. On the way in, SHUCK82 initiated a holding pattern where it was subsequently decided to divert to DFW. Many are wondering why DFW was chosen over nearby NAS JRB Fort Worth, or the Fort Worth Alliance Airport. Our best guess is that the nearby military base was closed and a secure ramp was required and DFW ticked the boxes.

It's got to be quite some time since a 707 has been spotted in Dallas/Fort Worth! It certainly has grabbed a lot of attention this morning.
