F6F-5 94443 (1949)

#otd Grumman F6F-5 94443 being used for tests at NATC Patuxent River, Maryland 13 December 1949. Produced in 1944-1945, the F6F-5 incorporated many detail improvements over the early F6F-3, but differed very little externally. This F6F-3 bears the stars-and-bar with red bar adopted in January 1947, on the overall glossy dark blue paint scheme used by carrier planes from early 1944 until replaced by the current light gray/white combination ordered in 1956.
