LHA evolution

Here is a comparison of the old and the new LHA’s on top is USS Peleliu LHA-5 and below her is USS Tripoli LHA-7. Tripoli has nearly the same beam at 106ft but it is 24 fr longer at 844ft. As you can see there is a considerable difference in the islands structure, notably the canted exhaust vents. Due to Tripoli having gas turbine power plants with a higher exhaust temperature the vets are canted away from the ship.
