USS Kidd DDG-993 and USS Peterson DD-969

A look back at USS Kidd DDG-993 and USS Peterson DD-969 moored together on the north side of pier 24 at the Norfolk Naval Base in 1996. This photo shows the differences in the regular destroyer versus the guided missile type. The Kidd was equipped with the more advanced SPS-48 and SPS-49 radar antenna. The Mark 26missile launcher is aft of the 5” gun mount.
